The Process
Once brewed, our Quad was filled and left to barrel aged for 6
months in Chardonnay barrels from the Marlow vineyard Harrow and
Hope and then left to bottle condition to further develop the
flavour profile.
Once ready, we wax dipped each bottle by hand and designed a
special label making our Belgian Quad a truly special and unique
Rebellion bottled beer.
A Brief History Trappist Beer and the Belgian
Quad
For centuries, monks across Northern Europe have been honing the
art of brewing, taking what was a haphazard process and turning it
into a fine craft. After fleeing the French Revolution, a
particularly renowned order of brewing monks known as the Trappists
settled in Belgium in 1802 and brewed beer styles such as the
Dubbel and Tripel. The quad itself is the newest and strongest
member of the Trappist beers, first being produced in 1991. To be
called a "Trappist beer" it must be brewed by the monks or under
their supervision within the walls of a Trappist abbey. There are
only a handful of true Trappist breweries left. A Trappist style
beer brewed by another brewery is often referred to as an "Abbey
Beer"
