These can now be purchased from our drive-through or ordered online for delivery to your door!
In February 2021 we started an ambitious project; the
introduction of a new returnable, fully re-useable 1 litre
bottle.
Prior to the change we used approximately 100,000 one trip
bottles per year. The goal of the initiative was to significantly
reduce the amount of glass needing to be recycled or ending up in
landfill. Once the project was inroduced, over 40% of our beer sold
through the shop, drive-through and home delivery is in returnable,
reusable containers. To launch a new returnable 1 litre bottle for
our draught beers, we invested considerably in an automatic bottle
washer and new special heavy duty glass bottles with swing tops,
capable of being washed and refilled many times over.
As well as providing durability, the new dark bottle has been
proven to help keep the beer tasting at its best for longer, by
excluding light which is known to promote beer ageing. In addition,
the new swing top helps to reduce the amount of oxygen in the
bottle, which also helps to keep the beer fresh for longer.
To make the biggest possible impact on the environment we need
the support of our customers to ensure as many bottles as possible
return to the brewery. This also helps us with the cost of the
project.
To help us be more efficient with the energy and chemicals used
in the process and to increase the life span of a bottle, we ask
our customers to rinse out the bottle when it is empty, avoid
putting anything in the bottle and to close the swing top to keep
it sealed.
Our new bottle washer efficiently cleans the inside of the
bottle with a hot, recirculated cleaning solution to leave it
spotless and sterile before being refilled, whilst the outside is
sprayed with clean water only, which means that the labels can be
re-used rather than having to be replaced each time.
The beer is 10p cheaper than the old price, however a
refundable deposit of 30p is added to the price of a 1L bottle.
Returning our bottles has 4 big plus points.
- It reduces ours and your glass usage significantly which
is great for the environment.
- You get 30p back on every new bottle brought
back.
- Your beer costs you 10p per bottle less than
before.
- We get the bottled back, which helps fund the
project.
Frequently Asked Questions.
Why did we make the change?
To reduce the environmental impact of the brewery.
Improved beer quality for our customers to enjoy.
How do I return my bottles?
If dropping back to the brewery, simply bring them along and when
you place your order. We'll take them off your hands and refund you
30p for each bottle returned.
Online, enter the number of bottles you'd like collected when
prompted, the discount will be added to the order you're placing.
Our driver will then collect the bottles when we deliver your
order, just like a milkman. Please leave empty bottles in an
obvious place if you'll be out when we deliver.
Where do I return my bottles?
At the brewery. Go to the shop (when open) or drive-through. Our
staff will be on-hand to help.
We will collect them from your house when we deliver your next
order, this only applies to local home delivery service, not orders
sent via courier we're afraid.
Do I need to rinse my bottle before returning
it?
Yes. Please rinse out the bottle with water when it is empty and
avoid putting anything in the bottle.
Close the swing top to keep it sealed and stop it from drying out,
that really helps in minimising the chemicals used during the
cleaning process.
How much do I get for returning a bottle?
You'll receive 30p per bottle returned.
Can I save up the credit and use it later?
No, your discount is taken off the total of an order placed at the
same time as the bottles are returned or when the order is placed
online.
Will a 1 litre cost me more to buy?
Not if/when you
bring the empty back. The beer is actually 10p cheaper, however the
refundable deposit of 30p is added to
the price of a 1L bottle. This
is to help incentivise customers to bring back the bottles and
therefore reduce our glass usage significantly.
I don't want to pay more for re-usable
bottles?
You don't, provided you can get them back to us or we
collect them within our free home delivery area. In fact, you will
save money by returning the bottles.
Unfortunately, whilst we would love to have kept the prices the
same, the project would have been too loss making for us to be able
to continue with it long term. Clearly if you don't bring the
bottles back, you are paying 20p more than before and we are sorry
for that. We considered running with our previous bottles and the
new ones, but logistically this was very difficult for us and would
restrict our 1 litre bottled range, as we would have to hold 2 x 1
litre stock items for each product. We hope that you find the
bottles offer a sufficiently higher quality of beer that you feel
it's still good value for the price. Alternatively, bring them back
and save money.
How do I get my refund online?
If your postcode is within our free delivery range and you've
passed the minimum spend on beer, you'll see a pop-up when you
enter the basket. The pop-up box will to ask if you have any
empties to return. You will automatically be credited on your
current order for the number of empties you want us to collect. Our
driver will then collect the empties when he makes the
delivery.
For any empty bottle collection, you need to fulfil the normal
free delivery rules. Just like a milkman, we will collect when
delivering.
Unfortunately, we can't offer a collection service for courier
delivery, please recycle as normal.
Where can I buy your new 1 litre swing top
bottles?
At the brewery shop (when open) and drive-through.
From the online shop.
Is there a maximum number of bottles that can be returned
at once?
At the drive through no limit
Online there is a maximum of 30 bottles per purchase.
