14 April 2018
Looking for something new? Want to expand your wine knowledge?
Then our weekly wine tasting is perfect for you...every Saturday we
select wines from our range for you to discover.
It's a casual tasting, no pressure and not guided so you can try
whilst browsing the shop. If you needed to know more, our
knowledgeable wine staff will be on hand to offer advice.
Samples will be available from 10am to 5pm each Saturday.
Drakenskloof Pinotage 2016
Western Cape, South Africa 14% abv
This big, rich, spicy red is as close as you could hope to come
to the essence of South African wine. Winemaker Frans Smit used
old-vine fruit for extra intensity and aged the wine in a
combination of American and French oak, softening the tannins and
adding notes of spice to the ripe berry flavours. Smooth enough to
be enjoyed on its own, but even better with rich food such as
chorizo and butter bean casserole or spicy ribs.
Di Prima Syrah 2015
Terre Sicilliane, Italy 14% abv
The Rhône is a top spot for Syrah, but Di Prima shows that
Sicily excels with it too. This red is our latest discovery from
this island, which is proving one of the most exciting places to
make wine. With deep colour, cherry, spice and chocolate
character, this Syrah goes well with grilled red meats and full
flavoured local dishes such as aubergine caponata or cucuzza squash
La Roccacia Verdicchio 2016
Matelica, Italy 12.5% abv
Verdicchio is one of the unsung hero white grapes of Italy,
producing a wine with a superb balance of creamy lemony and nutty
intensity. The finest wines, come from the high altitude
vineyards of the tiny Matelica region. The wine is from
Cantine Belisario, whose Verdicchio is widely regarded as among
Italy's best. It's a blend of cuvées from their highest vineyards,
some up to 400 metres. A generous portion of late harvest fruit
adds real depth of flavour, while lees ageing lends creamy weight.
A most enjoyable glass on its own or with creamy rice dishes,
chicken or seafood.
Ca' Bolani Prosecco Frizzante
Prosecco, Italy 12.5% abv
Prosecco is as Italian as gelato, enjoyed in some circles on a
daily basis! The best are the delicious, handcrafted versions from
artisan producers like the Zonin family, winemakers since 1821. Ca'
Bolani is one of the most stylish Proseccos you'll ever taste. It's
made entirely from their premium estate grown grapes in Friuli,
Italy's top white wine region.
