Samples will be available from 10am to 5pm each Saturday.
Drakenskloof Pinotage 2016
Western Cape, South Africa 14% abv
This big, rich, spicy red is as close as you could hope to come
to the essence of South African wine. Winemaker Frans Smit used
old-vine fruit for extra intensity and aged the wine in a
combination of American and French oak, softening the tannins and
adding notes of spice to the ripe berry flavours. Smooth enough to
be enjoyed on its own, but even better with rich food such as
chorizo and butter bean casserole or spicy ribs.
Selección Especial Numerada 22 Crianza 2013
Rioja, Spain 13.5% abv
Superb Rioja crafted by a star winemaker and offered to us at a
great deal price, hence its remarkable value. It's not often that
happens in Rioja - this is a real one-off from a celebrated winery.
A year in premium oak lends toasty complexity. This is a 5 star
Rioja, loaded with berry fruit, moreishly silky and shot through
with spicy oak nuances. As equally suited to a summer barbecue as
to a winter hot pot or a slow roasted lamb shank.
Palacio de Menade 2016
Castilla y Leon, Spain 13% abv
Spain makes dazzling white wine, too! Try this one made with
Sauvignon Blanc and vivacious Verdejo. With Vibrant aromas of fresh
mown grass, peach and lime zest, and breezy, citrus and apricot
freshness it's perfect for pairing with fresh seafood, canapés or a
smoked salmon salad.
Dominio de los Duques Brut Cava
Requena, Spain 11.5% abv
Most Cava is produced by big wineries in Catalonia, but here's
one from a small producer based near Valencia, determined to
outclass its northern neighbours. This fine sparkling wine was
aged for 12 months to ensure richness and complexity. It has very
small bubbles (a sign of quality), a refreshing stone fruit
character and elegant floral notes.
Serve chilled on its own or with tapas.
