07 July 2018

Web Wine Tasting Banner July

Looking for something new? Want to expand your wine knowledge? Then our big monthly wine tasting is perfect for you... On the first Saturday of the month we select 8 to 10 wines from our range for you to discover.

It's a casual tasting, no pressure and not guided so you can try whilst browsing the shop. If you needed to know more, our knowledgeable wine staff will be on hand to offer advice.

Samples will be available from 10am to 5pm each Saturday.

Here are the wine tasting notes...

Palacio de Menade 2017
Castilla y León, Spain 12% abv
£9.99

If you're a fan of the increasingly brilliant, Sauvignon-like whites of northwest Spain, you'll adore this gem from Castilla y León. What makes it extra special is the unusual blend of Sauvignon and local hero Verdejo, all grassy fresh and lemony.

Palacio's breezy, citrus and apricot freshness is perfect for pairing with fresh seafood, canapés or a smoked salmon salad.

La Révélation Rousanne 2016
Languedoc, France 14% abv
£11.49

Roussanne is one of the prized white grapes of the southern Rhône. Using fruit from twisted ancient vines, and with the wine aged long on its lees, this rounded white offers gentle creaminess married beautifully with apricot and mineral freshness. It's a tasty glass solo and a treat with white meats, and creamy fish, too.

Opi Malbec Rose 2017
Mendoza, Argentina 12.5% abv
£9.99

Mendoza's high altitude vineyards are ideal for Malbec and, thanks to the long growing season, great for aromatic, berry scented rosés too. No surprise then that this lush pink, bursting with ripe, red, summer fruit is hugely refreshing.  Try with pea and pancetta risotto, chicken, poached salmon or lightly spiced Asian dishes.

Lemon Hill Viognier 2016
Lodi, California 133% abv
£14.49

Pure California sunshine in a glass, Viognier is a heady, aromatic variety making rich, complex, and full-bodied white wines. A perfect match for lightly spiced foods like Moroccan chicken on mild Thai curry.

Farnese Pecorino 2016
Chieti, Italy 12.5% abv
£10.99

A ravishing, crisp, fruity white from Farnese, who've won more than 80 top accolades in the last 7 years. It's crafted from Pecorino, one of the top varieties of Abruzzo, and, as you'll taste in this white, it makes wine with gorgeous apricot fruit flavours. The perfect party wine, this refreshing drop is also delicious with white fish, chicken or seafood.

Marx Brothers red blend 2015
California, USA 13.5% abv
£13.99

Just like each Marx Brother brings his own magic to the screen, so each grape in this blend plays its part. A gorgeous, rich and sun ripened red comprising 90% Lodi Zinfandel with Petite Sirah and cassis laden Cabernet.

This is a red for a cosy night in, watching a good film, of course. Alternatively, it's a great choice for a barbecue or warming casseroles.

30 Mile Shiraz 2015
South Eastern Australia 14.5% abv
£9.99

All the judges at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2016 were impressed by this rich and spicy Shiraz, unanimously awarding it Double Gold. With Mouthfilling blackberry and spice flavours, it's a great match for cheeses, and grilled red meats.

Bambera de Barbadillo 2015
Cadiz, Spain 14.5% abv
£9.99

Spain's Winery of the Year 2015, Barbadillo is renowned for sherry. However, their winemaker Montse Molina is also a passionate champion of the region's table wines. It's a blend of Merlot, Cabernet, Shiraz and Tempranillo brought together to make a soft and silky wine.

Opi Malbec 2017
Mendoza, Argentina 13% abv
£9.99

Deep red-violet colour. Rich, concentrated scents of plums and cherries with notes of vanilla and chocolate. In the mouth it is juicy, with layers of ripe red fruit, coffee and toasted flavours. Tannins are velvety and sweet, ending with a long fruity aftertaste. Enjoy with spicy sausages, pasta or beef casserole or simply on its own.

Baia de Tróia Castelo 2017
Setubal, Portugal 14.5% abv
£12.99

Baía di Tróia delivers an immensely concentrated, black red - rippling with ripe plums, red berries and black fruit flavours, laced with chocolate, spice and toasty oak.  At 15.5% smooth power, it's not for the faint-hearted!  A rich casserole is ideal.
