Palacio de Menade 2017
Castilla y León, Spain 12% abv
If you're a fan of the increasingly brilliant, Sauvignon-like
whites of northwest Spain, you'll adore this gem from Castilla y
León. What makes it extra special is the unusual blend of Sauvignon
and local hero Verdejo, all grassy fresh and lemony.
Palacio's breezy, citrus and apricot freshness is perfect for
pairing with fresh seafood, canapés or a smoked salmon salad.
La Nantaise Réserve Muscadet Sèvre et Maine
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, France 12% abv
If you want crisp, dry and refreshing in a wine, you can't do
better than Muscadet. And having in the past lost out to the New
World, its winemakers are working extremely hard to win consumers
back. Quality and value have never been better.
The region is the most westerly in the Loire, closest to the
Atlantic, so its wines always seem to hint of the sea. You'll taste
that in this delicious Réserve white from fourth generation
winemaker Noël Bougrier, who added a portion of lees-aged wine for
Chill down and serve with seafood or light salads.
Marchese di Borgosole Riserva 2014
Salice Salentino, Italy 13% abv
Salice Salentino lies in the very heel of Italy's boot, quite a
low lying area, cooled by breezes from the Adriatic sea nearby.
The Negroamaro grape seems to love the climate here, producing
deep and intensely flavoured reds - wines that are beautifully
balanced and elegant, too. That's especially true of this gorgeous,
very well priced Riserva.
Highly experienced Marco Flacco has made the wine from
Negroamaro with a dash of softer Malvasia Nera - a classic blend of
Nine months in barrel and the rest in bottle has lent the
intense cherry fruit layers of chocolatey spice.
The wine has lovely maturity, yet the freshness and gentle
tannins to enable it to age a few years yet. For now, decant early
and serve with pork or game.
