Wine Tasting this week celebrating International Pinot Noir
Yarrunga Field Special Reserve Pinot Noir 2017
New South Wales, Australia 14% abv
Soft, smooth and oozing rich summer berry fruit, this
spectacular Pinot Noir will appeal not just to Pinot Noir fans but
also to those who prefer a more full-bodied red. South Australian
Pinots are in great demand and Yarrunga Field gives you great
value. It's moreish solo and great with sweet-glazed ribs or hoisin
crispy duck pancakes.
Le Champ des Etoiles Pinot Noir 2018
Pays d'Oc, France 13.5% abv
Want all the charming silky red fruit and scent of Burgundy's
Pinot Noir without paying the earth? That was the goal for Le Chai
winemaker Mark Hoddy. We think he's come up trumps - a perfect
balance of lush ripe fruit and classic berry elegance. A charming,
silky red that excels with white meats or mushroom risotto.
Purple Owl 2018
California, USA 14% abv
Purple Owl is no ordinary Pinot Noir - grapes for this juicy
berry red are sourced from the finest vineyards on California's
Central Coast. A gentle pressing and careful vinification capture
all its layers of vibrant cherry and raspberry fruit. Silky smooth
plum and raspberry flavours and a subtle note of oaky spice. Try
with chicken in red wine or spicy roasted vegetables and
Maison Roche de Bellene 2016
Bourgogne, (Burgundy) France 13.5% abv
An outstanding, old-vine cuvée of Burgundy with pure, elegant
red fruit, from an ace winemaker. Full to the brim with silky
charm, Roche de Bellene Pinot Noir is a real treasure from
acclaimed Burgundy winemaker and négociant Nicolas Potel. Made from
richly flavoured, old vine grapes, it's a superb, berry scented
introduction to the region. Supple enough to drink on its own and
ideal with seared tuna.
PS Pétillant Rosé Simon's Wine of the Month
Vin de France 11% abv
Lightly sparkling, very refreshing, and at a quarter of the
price of rosé Champagne, it's good value too. It means you don't
need a celebration to crack open a bottle. Simply chill well. PS
Pétillant is mouthwatering as an apéritif, also great with king
prawns or salade Niçoise, or poured over strawberries with a twist
of black pepper.
Redheads Rusty Roof Chardonnay
Barossa Valley, Australia 12.5% abv
RedHeads has been blazing a trail, first in the McLaren Vale,
then in the Barossa. They like to show the Big Boys of these smart
regions that they are a winemaking force to be reckoned
with. Typical of their winemaking skills is this luscious
Barossa white. Fermented and aged in oak, it has a tasty balance of
creamy ripe fruit and toasty spice.
