Stonewall Pinot Noir 2017
Marlborough, New Zealand 13% abv
New Zealand's Marlborough region has made its name with
Sauvignon Blanc, but winemaker John Forrest is proving it excels
with Pinot Noir, too. His Stonewall is silky with bright, ripe
berry fruit, while old vines give it real depth and richness.
This is a great red to enjoy
with chicken or mushroom risotto.
The Great Bonza 2017
South Eastern Australia 14.5% abv
A blend of the herby liquorice and blackberry of Aussie Shiraz
and the dark cassis of classic Cabernet. It's fresh and juicy with
a mouthful of cherries and blackcurrant. Six months of oak ageing
adds spice and a hint of vanilla. Supple and fruit laden, this red
is tasty on its own yet great with food.
The Prestige 2018
Mendoza, Argentina 14% abv
Made with top quality parcels of Malbec and Shiraz, the grapes
are air dried on straw mats for a few weeks after harvest, just
like they do in Italy. Moisture slowly evaporates, leaving flavour
even more concentrated, and then all cask aged for a few months.
This is a whopping, rich red, deep, dark and velvet smooth, it's
great with hearty stews.
Café Zoetrope 2017
California, USA 14% abv
A smooth, rich Chardonnay from Francis Ford Coppola's state of
the art winery in Geyserville, California. It has intense aromas of
ripe apple and pear, complemented by notes of brown spice and
toasted oak. The wine has ripe fruit flavours with a smooth, creamy
texture and a long, full finish.
