Porrais Reserva 2017 (Simon's Wine of the Month)
Douro, Portugal 13% abv
Was £12.99 - Now £10.99
A delicious, crisp, stony white from the high sloping vineyards
of Portugal's Douro Valley, famously home to deep rich reds and
magnificent Ports. With its spicy peach and zingy lemon curd
flavours, Porrais Reserva shows that the Douro is about much more
than just port these days, the region's whites offer superb
complexity and richness at very reasonable prices.
Domaine du Mas Ensoliellé 2018
Provence, France 13% abv
This is a tasty new find from a small cellar in Aix en Provence
and is made from Provence's finest varieties for elegant rosé,
Grenache and Syrah. This pretty pink is crafted from hand picked
grapes, harvested in the cool of the night. Subtle berry fruit with
a classic savoury edge and bright lemony zip - this wine is as
delightful on its own as it is with seafood or lighter vegetarian
Gran López Garnacha Rosado 2017
Campo de Borja, Spain 13.5% abv
Spain may be best known for its oaky reds, but it'd be foolish
to overlook its raft of delicious bright berry rosés. Garnacha is
the mainstay grape, one that performs brilliantly in Campo de
Borja. Using the free run juice of the hand picked grapes, and with
up to six weeks' lees-stirring, this terrific pink is creamy yet
fresh. Serve well chilled, on its own or serve with Mediterranean
Un Vent du Folie 2017
Côtes Catalanes, France 14% abv
Was £14.99 - Now £10.99
A powerful, velvety, barrique-aged red using old-vine Grenache
from arid Roussillon soils. Creator of this lusciously dense,
blackberry spice wine is grower and winemaker Jean-Charles Duran.
It's velvety and mouthfilling with kirsch, wild herbs, damson and
spicy oak flavours. It's a powerful red, best decanted an hour
beforehand. Enjoy with hearty meat dishes.
Vat 16 2017
Coastal Region, South Africa 16% abv
At 16% Vol the wine's name speaks for itself. It certainly
provides a warming, supple mouthful of fruit whenever you might
need one! It's a special wine that winemaker Gerhardt Swart usually
reserves as a blending component for his Flagstone range of wines.
With 16%, you could imagine it would add some heft, but because
it's grown at high altitude, the fruit has a lovely edge of
