New Beer in the Tap Yard DB9 - NEIPA (VISTA)
02 December 2022
NEW BEER!
DB9 - New England IPA (Vista Hopped) - 5.0%
Available now exclusively from the Tap Yard.
Our newest beer off the Development brewery is an American IPA
with intense fruit flavour and aroma. Hazy with a soft body and
smooth mouthfeel NEIPAs have less perceived bitterness than
traditional IPAs but are particularly hop forward. This emphasis on
late hopping, especially dry hopping, with hops of tropical fruit
qualities lending the specific 'juicy' character for which this
style is known.
Appearance
Straw yellow in colour, with an orange hue. Hazy.
Aroma
Intense hop aroma, with fruity qualities of stone fruit,
tropical fruit, and melon. Clean, neutral malt profile.
Flavour
Hop forward with the same characteristics as the aroma (emphasis
on fruit, with ripe tropical fruit, stone fruit, and melon).
Balanced bitterness. Neutral malt flavour.
Mouthfeel
Full-bodied and smooth. Moderately carbonated. Mildly alcoholic
flavour with a medium finish.
Additional Comments
Essentially a smoother, hazier, juicier American IPA. In this
context, 'juicy' refers to a mental impression of fruit juice or
eating fresh, fully ripe fruit. Haziness comes from the dry hopping
regime. DB9 mainly differs from DB2 (Our first NEIPA) in that it
showcases the vista hop, which has a tropical fruity & melon
flavour/aroma.
History
A modern craft beer style originating in the New England region
of the United States. Alchemist Brewery's Heady Topper is believed
to be the original example and inspiration for many other
interpretations that grew in popularity in the early to mid-2010s.
Brewers are continuing to innovate and evolve the style, trending
towards a less bitter presentation to the point of making a mockery
of the term "IPA". Compared to American IPA, New England IPA has a
fuller, softer mouthfeel, a more fruit-forward late hop expression,
a more restrained perceived bitterness balance, and a hazier
appearance.
