Hop Picking at Rebellion Brewery

Community Green Hop Ale

What happens when you take freshly picked hops from gardens, allotments and hedgerows around our local area and throw them all into one brew? You get our Community Green Hop beer – and the exciting part is, we never quite know how it’s going to turn out!

Now in its second year, our Community Green Hop is a Small Batch brew that’s a lovely way for us to involve the Rebellion community in the brewing process.

Ahead of the brew, we invited people to bring in hops growing in their gardens or found growing wild locally. We then sat down together at the brewery to pick the hop flowers, ready to be added fresh to the brew.

Part of the excitement of making the beer this way is that we inevitably receive a mixture of different hop varieties, each bringing its own character. It means we never know exactly how the finished beer will turn out until we get to taste it!

Everyone who contributed hops was rewarded with a litre of the ale they helped to produce.

Released in early October, this year’s Community Green Hop is light copper in colour with a beautiful floral character.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed hops and helped make this year’s beer possible. Keep an eye out for hops growing near you next September – yours could end up in next year’s brew!

Cheers!
